Tiny Victory #1 - Not wearing makeup at work!

So, a little back info on me. I alwaaaays wear makeup to work. And when I go out. This week, I've decided to forgo my usual concealer-foundation-powder-blush-eye shadow-eyeliner-mascara routine because I'm tired of it. It's tedious and I'm sure my skin could use the fresh air. I don't like the fact that I need to cover my face to feel pretty. I mean, this is what I look like. It might not be as attractive as the made-up version, but for better or worse, this is my face.

But you know what? It's fucking scary! I'm showing people what I REALLY look like. People who have never seen my face bare before. There is a big difference in what I look like made-up versus not, which makes this au naturel thing even more challenging. 'Cause people notice that shit. To girls who don't wear much makeup, it might seem like I'm being terribly petty. But think of it like this. The makeup I put on my face is a mask of security that I've been donning since I was 14 years old. For me to just TAKE IT ALL OFF is a big deal to me. Right now it's taking a lot of courage for me to walk around with my dark circles popping off my face and my lips so pale that they blend in with the rest of my skin. It takes courage for me to not run to the bathroom and apply make-up after people make comments to me about how tired I look. As it is, I'm having difficulty making eye contact with people because I'm still feeling self conscious about my bare face. But at least I'm doing it.

So without further ado...me in all my pale, un-made-up glory. (With the exception of tinted moisturizer. Give me some leeway!)

So I might have a little lip gloss on too...
Zombies are all the rage now, right?

Tiny Pleasure #3

Sitting in bed and painting your nails. It’s surprisingly therapeutic. What you see above is the result of last week’s self-given mani-pedi. I rarely paint my nails because I suck at it, but I figured I was in need of a little girly R&R time. And Clueless was on TV. Painting my nails seemed like an appropriate thing to do. Honestly I wasn’t too keen on the color (it was called DVD). But I made the most of it and dressed to match my nails the next day at work.

I’d been stressed out all week, and I know this sounds cheesy, but when I was done with my nails I felt…refreshed. I felt pretty and witty and bright. Soon I’m going to try Sally Hanson’s Nail Polish Strips in the Kitty, Kitty pattern. Leopard print, here I come!

Tiny Pleasure #2

Muthafuckin' HOT FRIES! I love these hardcore. They're in the vending machine at my job, but I don't eat them every day. Only on special occasions, like when I'm pissed off at something and need to eat my feelings. They make everything better. In my opinion, totally worth the processed food consumption.

Tiny Comfort #2

NOT having termites in your house.

Seriously, don't take it for granted. Unfortunately this is not a comfort I am experiencing right now. I have a drop ceiling in my kitchen, and dead termites have found their final resting place on top of the panels. Cleaning them is a lot of fun because it starts snowing termite wings if you even so much as tap one of the panels. I really want to kiss my boyfriend when termite wings get in his beard (which they did).

But it's not so much the dead termites that trouble me as the living ones. But alas, I'll save my complaints for people who actually care to hear about my homeowner woes. In other words, I'll keep it to myself.

Tiny Comfort #1 & Tiny Courtesy #1

Walking into an empty bathroom at work to do your business.

I'm going to be frank. Everyone prefers to poop in peace.

I know I breathe a sigh of relief every time I walk into the bathroom at work and all four stalls are EMPTY! For those of you who can poop in the presence of others...um, more power to you, I guess. I need my solitude.

And while I'm on the topic, tiny courtesy #1: the courtesy flush. You know what I'm talking about.

Tiny Pleasure #1

A fresh pot of coffee at work.

To quote the wise words of Terry Tate, "If you kill the Joe, make some mo'!"
I mentioned that I love a fresh pot, to which a coworker responded, "In every meaning of the word, right?" No comment!
